5 Facts about Search Engine Optimization

5 Facts about Search Engine Optimization

SEO or Search Engine Optimization is the process of getting your website ranked on google.  Many businesses throughout Connecticut know that they need SEO for a well performing business, but don’t know exactly why.  Here’s 5 facts about SEO!

1) The Top 5 urls on the search engine results get 75% of the clicks

So the SEO company that finally got you on page one is looking to renegotiate a price?  Let them know about his little fact.  If you’re not in the top 5 spots on google, bing or yahoo than you’re not getting many clicks.  Being in the first spot in the search engine is always best, but having a really great meta description can swing people to your website.  On the other hand having a keyword stuffed description that makes you sound like a robot will swing people away from clicking on your URL.

2) Google's got a death grip on the industry by owning 65-75% of the market share

Think about it… when is the last time someone said “bing it” or “yahoo it” – NEVER. People have been saying “Google it” for years, and it’s not stopping anytime soon. Bing is doing OK in second place because of the high amount of iPhone users that don’t install the google chrome app on their phone. Sure people love duck duck go, or some of the search engines with less ads. However, google isn’t going anywhere, and with their new google pixel phone becoming popular the only thing they’re doing is tightening their grip on the search engine market share.

3) 70-80% of users completely ignore paid ads

Ever search for a personal trainer near you? Then see some clearly marked Ads at the top of the screen. Those are Pay Per Click ads. Every time you click that ad the person will be charged a fee by google. Certain SEO Companies often refer to those ads as “buying keywords”. Unfortunately, the poor fool who buys one of these keywords only gets clicked on a mere 20-30% of the time. They’ll have to keep paying for that service to keep people clicking on their ads. Unless you’re ranking organically then you shouldn’t be investing money in Pay Per Click ads.

4) 75% of people don't even scroll past the first page of search results

A popular internet marketing joke is “Wheres the best place to hide a dead body? The second page of Google!” That pretty much hits the nail on the head. People have no reason to scroll to the second page. However, if your business is sitting on the second page your bound to get a ton of calls from people who want to rank you up in google. I’m sure you’ve gotten more than a handful of calls starting with “Do you want to be the first spot in Google?”

5) On mobile devices conversion rates were 15X (15 times!!!) higher from Search than Social MEdia

A popular internet marketing joke is “Wheres the best place to hide a dead body? The second page of Google!” That pretty much hits the nail on the head. People have no reason to scroll to the second page. However, if your business is sitting on the second page your bound to get a ton of calls from people who want to rank you up in google.
